Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners allow for greater flexibility. Daily life is easier to manage because cleaning and maintaining these trays is straightforward. But what about when you’re traveling? Does Invisalign become more difficult when going on vacation or a business trip? The answer is no, as long as you keep these 4 tips in mind.

Keep Essentials Nearby

Whether you’re flying, driving, or traveling by bus or train, keep a small bag full of the essentials on hand. This should include a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste, dental floss, and extra aligners. Keeping your bag nearby ensures you can easily clean your teeth after eating a meal or snack. It also offers greater peace of mind should you accidentally lose an aligner or discover one is damaged.

Continue to Practice Your Oral Hygiene Routine

Just because you are traveling doesn’t mean you should give up your oral hygiene routine. Whether you’re staying in the same time zone or flying to another part of the world, it’s essential to stay on top of your brushing and flossing habits. Also, make sure you regularly clean and soak your aligners to keep them germ-free at all times.

Pack Additional Aligners

Do not leave home without packing a few sets of additional aligners. How many you bring ultimately depends on how long you will be gone. At least, bringing the next set in the series ensures you will be ready to switch when it’s time.

If you accidentally damage or lose one or both of your aligners, you can call your orthodontist to ask whether it is okay to proceed with your next set of trays. If not, it’s best to bring your previous aligner set as well so that you can revert to wearing them until you return.

Only Drink Safe Water

Wherever you are traveling, make sure the water you drink and use to clean your mouth and aligners is safe. Failing to check beforehand can lead to illness, regardless of how you come into contact with it. If necessary, pack or purchase bottled water to safely brush your teeth and clean or soak your aligners. This will ensure you stay healthy and your aligners are safe to wear.

Don’t let your upcoming vacation make you worry about how you will manage your Invisalign aligners. By sticking to these tips, you can ensure your treatment stays on track while you’re gone.
